Do you believe that the status quo of the suburban lawn needs to be challenged? Do you dream of replacing your boring old lawn with a cornucopia of flowers and fruits and vegetables? Do you want to take care of the land where you live in a way that will nourish your soul and your body and the entire ecosystem that surrounds you?

Let’s do it!

If this is your dream, you’re going to need plants… a lot of plants. After all, plants are the foundation of life on this planet. So, you need to learn how to create and care for new plants.

In this workshop series, we will learn to propagate plants by:

  1. Starting seeds

  2. Transplanting seedlings

  3. Rooting cuttings

The Plant Propagator CSA is a series of 3 hands-on, personalized workshops. It’s for gardeners who want to learn how to start seedlings at home. You love the idea of being able to start any plant you want from seed or cuttings, but the reality of “you don’t know what you don’t know” can slow down the progress.

If you want to speed it up considerably, come learn from my 10 years of professional farming and gardening experience. The skills you will learn in these 3 workshops will completely revolutionize your gardening game, and literally change your life. I actually tried to write this less dramatically, but you need to feel the drama, because it’s absolutely true. Knowing how to start your own plants from both seed and cuttings is … a big deal.

The economy of being able to propagate endless plants is very enticing, but also, the feeling of watching a seed germinate and grow into a little baby and eventually a full-grown, blooming flower. Priceless.

In this workshop series, you get both the actual physical plants now and the knowledge of how to do it again next year.

Throughout the season you will get:

  • 64 cool-season hardy annual flower seedlings to plant in April

  • 64 warm-season tender annual flower seedlings to plant in May

  • 36 perennial flowers to plant in August

You’ll be able to fill up-to 120 square feet of space (if filling up space is your goal) or squeeze your plants into as little as 30 square feet (if maximizing space is your goal).

We start in March with the first workshop at my suburban flower farm.

Here, you’ll get an in-depth tour of my plant propagation station. I’ll cover topics like soil blocking, what type of plant light to choose for your own set up, what equipment and special tools you might want and why or why not, and where to get the best seed starting soil.

You’ll learn how to use a small soil blocker, and how to properly fill a plastic cell tray.

You’ll learn the difference between cool-season hardy annuals, and warm-season tender annuals, and which species of flowers and vegetables we sow in March and which in April.

Save money on seeds now by perusing an extensive collection of flower seed packets, and save money on seeds later when you learn how to store seeds properly to keep them viable as long as possible.

You’ll also get to choose from a selection of pre-sprouted annuals, and we will learn how to safely tease apart seedling roots for transplanting into your very own 64-cell seedling tray.

Leave your seedlings with me to be watered daily and fertilized weekly, until you return for the second workshop in April, when they’ll be ready to go home with you and into the ground (yes, in April).

When you return in April for the second workshop, we will sow seeds and transplant seedlings of the next group of plant types -- warm-season annuals -- and learn how to build a quick and dirty raised garden bed (a skill you will need to take home along with your cool season annuals).

For the last workshop in May, we will walk the garden and take cuttings from the many varieties of perennials I’ve amassed over the years.

In this final workshop, you will learn how to properly prepare and root a cutting -- a skill that will keep any garden you frequent bursting with perennial flowers for the rest of your life.

Again, leave your cuttings with me to be cared for until the end of July, when they will be ready to pick up and plant in your garden anytime up until September 15th.

Can’t wait to have you, and propagate some plants!!!!

If you have a group of 4 or more and you’d like to do this workshop together as a group, email me to schedule a time that fits your schedule.
