Opening Day of Derry Homegrown
Tomorrow (Wednesday June 4th) is the big day. It actually astounds me to think about the time investment it takes to show up dowtown for… 4 hours, ha!
Totally worth it. There’s magic in the air when so many people gather together with the same purpose. Tomorrow, I’ll be set up in my little booth surrounded by plants, flowers and people. I can’t wait.
Here’s the product list for Opening Day 2025:
FLOWERS!
Sweet William, Columbine, Iris, and Allium are the staples this week.
Every single flower I’ll be bringing was planted last year or sooner. The cold wet spring we had has been making things move very slowly.
These are conditioning in the cooler, and will be assembled into bouquets right before the market so they are fresh faced when they arrive at the market :)
Mixed Bouquets will be available of course, but I’m also aiming to ramp up my offerings of straight bunches. Columbines and Sweet William (which both hold their own very well in a vase alone) will be available in bunches of 10 stems.
And it wouldn’t be Opening Day without:
PLANTS!

I have put in a lot of work in the off season to develop these “Plant Cards.”
Last year, I bought about 30 metal sign holders to pop a little graphic like this into and display in the garden. The main goal is to label my perennial flowers with something semi-permanent that looks nice and helps me keep everything straight!
They can do double duty as a price card at the market, and TRIPLE duty as a plant identification aid for you!
Since the beginning of this business venture, I’ve been thinking of ways to get rid of the plastic plant tags that plague our gardens, and this is one more step in that direction.
My hope is that someone bringing a plant home would be able to refer to these cards in digital form and identify what plants are what based on the center photograph. To me, this is a triple threat: 1) no plastic tag littering your garden, 2) level up your plant identification skill, and 3) get all the key info you need for planting.
All of the plants in the slideshow above will be available, along with some others. All of them are listed here:
Dill
Nasturtium
Peppers (Cupid, Jalapeno, Banana)
Tomatoes (Verona, Rutgers)
Basil (Lemon, Sweet, Thai, Purple ruffles)
Lupine
Rudbeckia
Zinnia
Sedum
Chives
Peonies!
I can’t wait to see some familiar faces tomorrow and revisit the excitement of farmers market season.
Cheers to you all.
